Island Murter – the island of amazing variety of nature, beautiful, sandy and stone beaches, the cultural center since Roman times marked with numerous historical heritage, traditions dugogodisnjeg tourism, hospitality and diligence of the island’s population.

The inhabitants of of the island have long engaged in fishing, farming, livestock, shipbuilding, and lately more and tourism. The most widespread culture on the island are olives and figs.
The beginnings of tourism on the island of Murter date back to the twenties of the twentieth century when the first tourists arrived in Tisno. Today accommodation on the island you can found in hotels, apartments on the island Murter and the fishermen’s houses on the Kornati islands.
Murter offers many activities, as sports courts, water sports, diving centers, sailing, riding school, charter, and to numerous restaurants and cafes.
In the possession of residents of the island Murter is situated 10 nautical miles away Kornat archipelago. Two-thirds of the Kornati islands is now a national park. Najviši vrh otoka je brdo Raduč,sa kojeg se pruza prekrasan pogled na sam otok i Kornatsko otočje. Otok se nalazi u blizini glavnih dalmatinskih gradova: Šibenik 28 km, Zadar 56 km i Splita 100 km. Na otoku su četiri mala mjesta: Murter, Betina, Tisno i Jezera.
Bio je kulturno središte još u rimsko doba o čemu svjedoče brojni ostatci povijesne baštine. Otok se prvi put spominje pod imenom Scardon od strane grckog znanstvenika Ptolomeja. Stari hrvatski naziv otoka je Srimac (Srimač) te se prvi puta spominje u 1251 godini, dok je na otoku bilo samo dva mjesta Veliko Selo (Villa Magna)- Murter i Jezera.Betina i Tisno nastaju u 15. stoljeću i osnovali stanovnici Vrane bježući od Turaka. 1740. otok dobiva ime Murter.
Stanovnici otoka su se dugo bavili ribolovom, poljodjelstvom, stočarstvom, brodogradnjom, a u posljednje vrijeme sve više i turizamom. Najraširenija kultura na otoku su masline i smokve.
Počeci turizma na otoku Murteru sežu do dvadesetih godina dvadesetog stoljeća kada su prvi turisti stigli u Tisno. Danas smještaj na otoku možete naći u hotelima, apartmanima, kampovima kao i u ribarskim kućama na obližnjim otocicima i Kornatima.
Na Murteru se nude mnoge aktivnosti poput raznih sportskih terena, vodenih sportova, ronilačkih centara, škola jedrenja, škola jahanja, a na usluzi su vam i brojni restorani i barovi. U posjedu stanovnika otoka Murtera nalazi se 7 nautičkih milja udaljen Kornatski arhipelag. Dvije trećine Kornata je danas nacionalni park. NP Kornati se sastoji od ukupno 89 otoka, otočića i grebena, a cijeli Kornatski arhipelag ima 189.
